Bhagawan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri, fondly known as Bade Baba, was an enlightened avadhut whose life was surrounded by profound spiritual mysteries and miraculous events. Devotees recall countless stories that highlight his divine powers, from miraculous healings to acts of omniscience. While Nityananda Swamy himself discouraged the glorification of miracles, focusing instead on the journey of self-realisation, these accounts continue to inspire faith and devotion in his followers.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Bhagawan Nityananda’s life was his ability to heal ailments that defied medical explanation. Stories abound of people with chronic illnesses and physical deformities who experienced instant or gradual recovery through his blessings.
A well-known story recounts the healing of a boy suffering from paralysis. The boy’s family brought him to Ganeshpuri, desperate for a cure. After Nityananda Swamy gently touched the boy’s head, the child reportedly began to move his limbs and eventually regained full mobility. Similarly, a woman with severe arthritis who could barely walk approached Nityananda Baba. He instructed her to bathe in the sacred hot springs of Ganeshpuri daily, and within weeks, she was free of pain and walking without assistance.
Nityananda Swamy’s healing powers extended beyond physical ailments. Many devotees suffering from mental anguish or emotional distress found solace in his presence. One devotee shared how she had been on the verge of suicide when she visited Nityananda Baba. Sitting silently before him, she felt a wave of peace wash over her, and her despair lifted completely.
Nityananda Baba’s compassion for the poor and hungry was evident in the way he ensured that no one in Ganeshpuri went without food. Miraculous stories of food provision during his time at the Ganeshpuri Nityananda Ashram are legendary among devotees.
One of the most famous incidents occurred during a community meal when the ashram’s kitchen ran out of food. The cooks informed Nityananda Swamy, who calmly instructed them to continue serving. To everyone’s astonishment, the pots seemed to refill themselves, and all who came were fed without scarcity. Similar stories were reported multiple times, with devotees convinced that Nityananda Baba’s divine intervention ensured that resources were never depleted.
Many devotees believe that Bhagawan Nityananda’s grace protected them from harm, even in dangerous situations. One popular story involves a man travelling through a forest notorious for wild animals and robbers. The man later recounted that he encountered a tiger on his path but saw an image of Nityananda Baba standing between him and the animal. The tiger retreated, leaving the man unharmed.
Another story tells of a devotee who fell into a river during a storm and was at risk of drowning. The devotee claimed to have seen Nityananda Swamy’s hand pulling him to safety, despite the guru being physically far away in Ganeshpuri at the time.
One of the most fascinating aspects of Nityananda Swamy’s life was his ability to know the thoughts and intentions of those around him. Many devotees shared experiences of Nityananda Baba addressing their innermost concerns without them uttering a word.
In one instance, a devotee came to Ganeshpuri planning to ask for guidance on a business matter. Before he could speak, Nityananda Swamy looked at him and said, “Do it the way your heart tells you. It will succeed.” Astonished, the man realised that the guru had answered his unspoken question with precise advice.
Another story involves a man who doubted Nityananda Baba’s powers and visited Ganeshpuri with the intention of testing him. Before the man could pose his challenge, Nityananda Swamy laughed and said, “You came to test me, but the one who needs testing is you.” The man, humbled by the guru’s insight, became a devoted follower.
These incidents were not isolated. Devotees frequently experienced Nityananda Swamy’s telepathic understanding, which often provided them with clarity and direction in their lives.
Devotees often witnessed unexplained phenomena in Nityananda Baba’s presence, further cementing their belief in his divinity. One commonly shared story involves a lamp in the Ganeshpuri Nityananda Ashram that never seemed to run out of oil, despite burning continuously for days.
Another incident occurred when a group of devotees were stranded in a storm while on their way to see Nityananda Swamy. As they prayed for his guidance, they reportedly saw a glowing light in the distance, which led them safely to shelter. Later, they discovered that the light had emanated from the direction of the Ganeshpuri Nityananda Ashram.
While Bhagawan Nityananda’s miracles are awe-inspiring, it is important to understand that he never performed them to gain recognition or followers. In fact, he often downplayed these occurrences, reminding devotees that true spirituality lies in self-realisation and not in the pursuit of supernatural phenomena.
For Nityananda Baba, miracles were simply expressions of divine energy, meant to inspire faith and demonstrate the limitless potential within each individual. He encouraged his followers to focus on inner transformation and to see the divine in everyday life, rather than becoming overly attached to miraculous events.
Legacy of Miracles
The stories of Bhagawan Nityananda’s miracles continue to inspire and comfort devotees around the world. Whether it is accounts of healing, protection, or unexplained phenomena, these miracles serve as reminders of his boundless compassion and spiritual power.
Even decades after his Mahasamadhi, devotees visiting Ganeshpuri often report experiencing subtle miracles, such as a sudden sense of peace, answers to their prayers, or moments of divine clarity. For those who believe, Nityananda Baba’s presence remains as vibrant and powerful as ever.
While the miracles of Bhagawan Nityananda may defy logical explanation, they highlight the profound impact of his life and teachings. For his followers, these stories are not just about extraordinary events but are deeply personal experiences of faith, devotion, and transformation.
Is material life an obstacle to spiritual awakening? This book is an invitation to dissolve that illusion.
For years, I lived two lives: one dedicated to work, relationships, and responsibilities, and another spent seeking stillness and deeper truths in meditation, until I realized the divide wasn’t real. It was something I’d created in my mind.
